First
impressions
I admit it, I'm basically lazy, the last time
I went to a gym was...ummm, well, a long time
ago. I have, though, for a long time religiously
done my kegel exercises each morning. I was
intrigued to see if this exerciser would live
up to its promise to take the guesswork out
of which muscles I was really exercising.
For those who don't know, the kegel exercises
were originally developed as a way to counter
incontinence that often occurs in women after
childbirth or during later life.
This baby comes with a nice faux velvet purse,
the biggest tube of KY Jelly I've ever seen,
an instruction booklet, and the exerciser
itself. To me the exerciser resembles a stapler:
don't panic, I'm talking mechanism wise here!
It works on the lever principle and seemed
quite powerful, especially if both springs
were in place. I did like the fact that there
was a built-in stop that allows the exerciser
to be inserted only so far. This was apparently
to ensure that you are exercising the right
muscles.
I read the instruction booklet before retreating
to my lab for further research. There are
some warnings you should read and heed, and
I'll list them at the bottom of this review.
Solo Play
If you're new to kegels, then please start
with step one of the instruction leaflet.
Make sure you apply plenty of lube before
attempting to insert the exerciser and take
things slowly. It did take me a few attempts
to insert this as far as it is supposed to
go, and you really can't push it any further
than the stops will allow. I found lying on
my back with a pile of pillows behind my shoulders
was the most comfortable position for me.
The trick to easy insertion here is plenty
of lube, to relax and make sure you grasp
the handle firmly, and press the exerciser
so it's firmly shut. Once it was finally inserted
and in position, I began the exercises as
directed. I was surprised at the amount of
resistance I felt, and, I admit it, the rhythmic
squeezing and the feeling of having something
inside me got me hot under the collar. You
can actually feel this working, and although
at first the sensation may be strange, it's
a nice strange. I actually got carried away
the first time I tried this and orgasmed,
which I soon regretted as the exerciser shot
out as I exerted a little too hard and resulted
in leaving me not only annoyed with myself
but sore as well. You're supposed to pull
this out by squeezing it shut and gently pulling;
trust me when I say this is the best way.
My lesson firmly learnt, I took a few days
off my exercise routine, as my muscles ached,
and the soreness from my forced withdrawal
didn't make me feel like trying it again too
soon. This time I was more careful, following
the instructions to the letter and not overexerting
the muscles themselves. It still had the same
effect on me as far as turning me on was concerned,
but I cut the routine short before I felt
the need to orgasm and swapped it for something
more suitable instead.
What's it all add up to?
Despite my initial reservations, I was surprised
by how easy this was to use and clean, and
I did feel the difference after a few weeks.
From my first experience I quickly learnt
that as with any other exercise machine/routine,
following the instructions was essential.
Over time if you increase the spring tension
as suggested, you can really feel the difference
as you step up the resistance.
If you're not used to using anything that
requires insertion, then this might not be
the best way to start. Although, when closed,
it is really no bigger than many tampons,
it does require patience and practice to obtain
its full benefits.
The biggest drawback for me was each time
I used it I found myself getting incredibly
turned on; each time I squeezed, it hugged
all the right places. I had to remember to
stop and switch toys/tools each time or risk
hurting myself again--something that I really
don't recommend to anyone.
I'm not sure that I would actually go out
and buy this device again. I stayed with it
more because I believe in giving all the products
I review a fair crack at the whip so to speak.
To be fair I did notice the difference over
a period of weeks, but the exerciser itself
became almost redundant to me actually doing
them. It was far easier just to sit at my
desk and do them as I always had, less fuss
and a lot less mess. This is one of those
products that you have great intentions of
using, and yet somehow over time, it is likely
to end up gathering dust in the bedside drawer.
The warnings on the leaflets are:
Do not force the device in and out of your
vagina; always keep the handle firmly closed
during insertion and removal.
Do not use the device if you have a vaginal
infection or STD.
Do not use the device within 6 months of childbirth
or pelvic surgery.
Do not use the device while using tampons,
IUD's, or any other contraceptive device.
Heed them!
